The Kiwanis Club of Penticton is committed to helping Summerland residents recover and rebuild after the Bald Range Fire. Below are the current ways we can help.
 

Free Fridge & Freezer Pickup

Coming home after a wildfire is never easy. Along with everything else you're facing, you may be returning to a fridge or freezer full of spoiled food — a small thing in the grand scheme, but one more difficult task on a very long list. The Kiwanis Club of Penticton wants to help lighten that load. We're offering free pickup and disposal of damaged or non-working refrigerators and freezers for Summerland residents affected by the Bald Range Fire. There is no cost to you.
 

Before your pickup, please take these steps for your own safety:

• Remove all spoiled food from the appliance. If the fridge was exposed to fire suppression water, or if you're unsure whether food stayed cold enough, throw it all out — when in doubt, throw it out.

• Double-bag food waste in heavy-duty bags to help prevent leaks, and take care with disposal — increased bear activity has been reported in the area, so keep food waste secured until collection.

• Clean and disinfect the interior with warm, soapy water, followed by a solution of 1 tsp of household bleach per 4 cups of water. Wear gloves and make sure the area is well ventilated.

• Bring the appliance to the curb, with the doors secured shut for safe transport.
   

Fill out the form below with your name, phone number, email, and pickup address. Our volunteers will be making rounds through affected neighbourhoods to collect items — no need to transport it anywhere yourself.

Please also remember that if your appliance was damaged by the fire, it's worth contacting your insurance provider and photographing the damage before disposal, in case it's needed for a claim.
