What do you get when you assemble Kiwanis members with goodie bag content?

This past Thursday, October 21st, Kiwanis members met for the social meeting of October. It was more of a work meeting then anything!! In roughly 2 hours, members simultaneously worked on not one but THREE Kiwanis projects!!

The main event of preparation was the Penticton Trick or Treat Cycle Path. Members cars were loaded with items that had been collected from our sponsors and items that were purchased with the financial support of sponsors.

In the end, 260 goodie bags were assembled!! Final preparations for the Halloween event are under way, but here is a sneak peek of what we have in store!

The other projects that members worked on where surrounding early literacy projects in our community. The Books for Babies program had a fresh order of books that were labeled and bagged in preparation for Interior Health.

The final project was for our newest project! We are thrilled to share our pilot project of Kiwanis Kid Readers! We have partnered with School District 67 and will be working with the a group of students at 2 Elementary Schools this fall to provide books of their choosing at no cost to them! Earlier this week, members presented to the Education Committee of the Whole to share the project, and it was well received. More information about the project will be shared in a separate post. The books for the project also were labeled by members and will be delivered to the schools early next week.

It was a busy night, but the end result was amazing! We can not wait to see all the families at the Penticton Trick or Treat Cycle-Path!
